I have always believed in signs, literally and figuratively. As an aimless and uninspired college student, I saw a sign in the stairwell on the way to class one day that read, “Are you interested in working with older adults?” ZING! ZAP! I felt like I had been struck by lightning! Suddenly, I knew that was exactly what I was looking for.
I immediately changed my major and thus began a 30+ year career in the senior living industry starting as an Intern, Activity Assistant, Activity Director, Assistant Executive Director, Marketing and Sales Director, Executive Director, Culture Change Consultant, Regional Director and Vice President. You name it, and I’ve pretty much done it. The common thread through all of these roles was that of coaching and mentoring staff, or as my peers would say, “planting them in the garden”.
Reflecting on my career and life experiences, including being an adult child with a parent living in an assisted living community, I see how all the signs along the way have led me to this place. As I have progressed along this journey as a Coach, I am even more sure that this is the place where I can best help and serve and make a difference. At the end of each coaching session, as clients reflect back on their new awareness, tools in their toolbox and progress toward their goals, I am thankful for this rare silver-lining to the COVID-19 pandemic.
I am a certified Holistic Life, Career and Executive Coach through Goal Imagery Institute, who works within the framework of the International Federation of Coaching Standards and Ethics. I have a Master’s Degree in Human Development and Gerontology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Family Relations and Gerontology. I understand growth throughout the lifespan.
